Abstract: 

In the present research, carbon fiber reinforce polymer (CFRP) composite with fibers aligned along the column axis was used to strengthen the RC columns. A newly introduced method named as grooving method (GM) was utilized to improve the compressive behavior of longitudinal FRP and postpone the buckling and delamination of longitudinal composite from concrete substrate. Two techniques of GM, i.e. externally bonded reinforcement on grooves (EBROG, to be pronounced as / ebrΛg /) and externally bonded reinforcement in grooves (EBRIG, to be pronounced as / ebrIg /) was used, as well as EBR method, to strengthen the column specimens. For this purpose, 11 RC column specimens with circular section of 150 mm diameter and height of 500 mm were tested under uniaxial Compression. Experimental results showed that using the grooving method in strengthening the column specimen, significantly increased the load carrying Capacity of specimens; while the conventional EBR method showed inconsiderable effects on the load Capacity. The results demonstrated that utilizing EBROG and EBRIG techniques led to respectively 14.1% and 18.5% increase in the column maximum load. However, the column strengthened with EBR method indicated only 2.6% increase in the load carrying Capacity.

Abstract: 

The present research was carried out to find the stress-carrying Capacity of corner miter Vjoints in tensile and Compression directions to be compared with those of dovetail joints. Variables included the type of material to produce the joints (MDF and particleboard), the number of V-nail in each joint (2, 3, and 4 V-nails), and the height of V-nails (7 and 10 mm). Separate sets of joints were produced with and without polyvinyl acetate resin. Results demonstrated that the stress-carrying Capacity under Compression was significantly higher than those in the tensile direction. Moreover, MDF joints showed higher stress carrying Capacity in comparison to those made from particleboard. Joints with resin were significantly stronger than those without resin. Higher number of V-nails resulted in improvement in the stress-carrying Capacity in both directions. Based on the results of the present research, it was concluded that V-nails are preferred to dovetail joints from different perspectives, including their lower production cost, lack of need for an extra step to mill the joint to inset the bits, fast and easy installation of V-joint in one-step process, as well as higher stress-carrying Capacity. The results indicated the maximum stress-carrying Capacity of 13. 7 MPa and 28 MPa for V-nails without and with adhesive, respectively. Tt was concluded that 4 V-nails with 10 mm height in MDF joint-members would be recommended for joints without resin. In case of joints with resin, MDF joint-members with 3 V-nails of 10 mm would provide the highest stress-carrying Capacity for craftsmen and producers of furniture and cabinets.

Abstract: 

Background: Chronic diabetes is substantially associated with circulatory disorders in lower limbs. Vacuum-Compression Therapy (VCT) has been commonly used in treatment of peripheral circulatory disorders. VCT is based on intermittent alteration of Positive- Negative pressure phases. The purpose of this study was to determine effects of VCT on diabetic subjects' peripheral blood flow.Methods: In this Before-After and case-series study, 18 type 2 diabetic subjects with diabetic neuropathy and/or peripheral vascular disease (PVD) completed the study. Subjects received 45 min of VCT for 10 sessions three times weekly. Blood flow (calf+foot) was measured via venous occlusion plethysmography.Results: Among Variables of "Arterial Inflow", "Venous Outflow", "Venous Capacity", "Postischemic Reactive Hyperemia" and "Peak Flow of Reactive Hyperemia", only "Venous Outflow" significantly improved after 10 sessions treatment via VCT (P<0.05).Conclusions: Arterial blood inflow, which was the most important determinant evaluated in this study, was not increased via VCT. Additional studies are required to investigate the effective VCT parameters and duration of each session and number of sessions, considering progressive and deteriorative natural history of diabetes.

Abstract: 

The lack of Quranic approaches in the production of Quran-based humanities is still felt, despite the predominance of the philosophical approach in critical approaches to modern humanities, which has become very common in the Islamic world and in Iran for several decades. It seems that the Capacity of the method of thematic exegesis (al-Tafsīr al-mawdū'ī, Arabic: التفسیر الموضوعیّ) in this regard, can be used to bring the Holy Quran into the field of humanities. Thematic exegesis, according to whether its subject is inside or outside the Qur'an, has several functions in criticizing the structure of modern knowledge and scientific research, as well as the production of Islamic humanities. It is possible to make use of thematic exegesis of the inside of the Holy Book of Quran in order to “fundamental criticism” of the general fundamentals of humanities -the fundamentals of epistemology, axiology, ontology and anthropology- and it is also possible to use thematic exegesis for constructing and producing foundation of humanities obtained from the Holy Quran. It is used by thematic interpretation exegesis of the outside of the Holy Book of Quran -such as Shahīd (martyr) Sadr’s interrogational approach- to answer the problems of humanities and this process faces challenges such as the complexity and multiplicity of the “subject” of the humanities that exist in modern terminology of this field. It can be used in order to solve this issue in some cases to know the process of the change of the components of the modern of the conceptual history’s approach and also by analyzing the issue into several components can be shown that the components are not necessarily a product of the modern era and can be followed up in the Holy Quran and can be found up in the Holy Quran. The perspective of the Holy Quran, after that, regarding the modern subject in the desired field by the “combining” of the results obtained based on the thematic interpretation.

Abstract: 

Plate elements is one of the most important parts of structures specially ships and offshores structures. Pitting corrosion is one of the most important types of deterioration of steel structures. There have been many losses of the merchant vessels due to exposure to large environmentally induced forces. Residual strength assessment of damaged structures subjected to pitting corrosion is essential. Present study investigates the ultimate strength characteristics of plate elements with pit corrosion subjected to axil compressive loads. A series of ABAQUS non-linear FEM analysis of plates with partial depth corrosion pits are carried out, changing geometrical attributes of both pits and plates, i. e., the radius and depth of pits and the slenderness of plates. Simulation results show that the volume of corrosion loss, yielded stress, the loaded dimension have a remarkable influences than the depth and radius of corrosion pits on the ultimate strength of damaged steel plate elements by pitting corrosion.

Abstract: 

This study was conducted to evaluate stress carrying Capacity of miter corner joints fabricated with loose tenon under tension and Compression loading. In this study, tests were carried out to determine the effects of the dimension of loose tenon A (3.5´1´0.8 cm) and B (3´2´0.8 cm), type of adhesive, Polyvinyl acetate (PVA) and polyurethane (PU) and most commonly used wood species in furniture industry including beech (Fagus orientalis L.) and fir (Abies alba). The results indicated that the stress carrying Capacity of joints under Compression is higher compared to tension loading. Stress carrying Capacity of the joints constructed with loose tenon A was higher than that of B. Furthermore, the results have shown that wood species and type of adhesive had significant effect on the stress carrying Capacity. The performance of joints constructed with beech wood and PU adhesive were stronger than joints made of fir wood and PVA adhesive.

Abstract: 

Percutaneous vertebroplasty is a promising therapeutic technique for pain control in patients with pathologic fractures of vertebral bodies. Percutaneous vertebroplasty is an appropriate treatment for vertebral pathologic fractures, which is resistant to other usual treatment. It is a useful and only choice in special cases, because of less tissue damage and there is no risk of open surgery and patient's embolization is rapid. Herein we described the first case of percutaneous vertebroplasty in Yazd shahid sadoughi teaching hospital, which was done in ordybehesht 1386 in a 72 years old male with pathologic fracture of 2 lumbar vertebrae. He was suffered from pain and disability and open surgery was not appropriate treatment for him.

Abstract: 

It is noteworthy that about one-third of the input energy to the cylinder of an internal combustion engine becomes useful work and the rest of the energy is lost by various factors. Therefore, providing solutions that can recover waste heat is remarkable and useful. In the current study, the effect of the start of injection timing on the reactivity controlled Compression ignition engine on the waste heat recovery Capacity has been investigated. After verifying the results, diesel fuel start of injection timing has been changed and their effects on exergy destruction, waste heat recovery Capacity, power output and emissions have been investigated. The results showed that the advanced start of injection timing increases engine efficiency and decreases carbon monoxide and unburned hydrocarbons emissions. In addition, heat transfer exergy has increased due to the higher in cylinder temperature, and the higher temperature has led to an increase in irreversibility due to the increased number of reactions. Advanced fuel injection timing has improved utilization.

Abstract: 

This study was conducted to evaluate the stress carrying Capacity of miter corner joints made with binder of biscuit under diagonal tension and Compression loading. Corner joints with the Joint members from two species of beech (Fagus orientalis) and Fir (Abies alba), with 1 to 2 biscuits to size of 10 and 20 and with help adhesives of polyvinyl acetate (PVAc), polyurethane (PU) and urea formaldehyde (UF), they were made and tested. Since wooden pin joint is one of the most commonly included furniture joint, the test specimens were constructed using a pin and PVAc adhesive as a control for comparison with binder of biscuit. The results of analysis of variance showed that the independent effect of the species of Joint members, the size of biscuits, the number of binders and the type of adhesive in both Compression and tensile loading is significant at 5% level. The results showed that the stress carrying Capacity of the joints made with beech species is higher than that of fir species, and with increasing size and number of biscuits, the stress carrying Capacity increases. The stress carrying Capacity of the joints made with the polyurethane adhesive was also higher than those made joints with polyvinyl acetate and urea formaldehyde adhesives. The stress carrying Capacity of the joints made under Compression load was greater than the stress carrying Capacity under the diagonal Compression and tension load. The highest stress carrying Capacity was observed in joints made with beech wood, two binders, biscuit size 20 and polyurethane glue, in both diagonal tension and Compression loading.
